Translation
You can expect my translations to reflect the substance and flavour of your original while sounding natural in German. I will always ask you for a copy of the text you wish to have translated before providing you with a quotation, and there are three reasons for this. I need to see your text to ensure that it matches my capabilities, to work out a realistic delivery deadline and to calculate my fee as this is not based on word count alone – factors such as the degree of complexity, repetitiveness and urgency are also taken into account.
Certified Translations
As a Qualified Translator assessed by the ITI, I can provide a certified translation of your birth certificate, marriage certificate or other official document from English into German.
Post-editing
Post-editing of machine translations (MTPE) to produce a final translation which is comparable to a human translation in terms of its quality and impact requires the skills of an experienced translator. MTPE can be a cost-effective alternative to human translation but whether MTPE is suitable for a given project depends on various factors. I have completed further training in this area and can thus help you decide whether to opt for MTPE or human translation.
Revision
If you ask me to revise a translation you have received, I check the accuracy, consistency and style of the translation against the source text as well as identifying any spelling, grammar or typing mistakes, ensuring it is ready for typesetting or publication.
Proofreading
When proofreading a translation, I go through the copy in its final layout to make sure that it is ready for printing or publishing. I check the layout against that of the source text, highlighting any issues such as text missed during typesetting. Also included is a final check of spelling, grammar and facts such as dates and names.
